Randy Skagen, Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa, Appointed AIST President

Randy C. Skagen, vice president and general manager, Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc., Tuscaloosa, AL, USA, has been appointed President of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) for 2017–2018. Randy succeeds Wendell L. Carter, vice president and general manager, ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor, East Chicago, IN, USA.

In regard to his appointment, Mr. Skagen said, "It will be an honor to serve our industry as president of AIST. The steel industry has blessed my family and me for over 38 years. We live in a global economy and now more than ever we need to work together to make our industry safer, more innovative and more attractive to young people entering their chosen profession. By working within our own association and partnering with other steel associations and government agencies, we will ensure the strength of steel for years to come."

AIST announced its 2017–2018 executive committee and board of directors during AISTech 2017. Also appointed as officers were:

AISTech 2017 was one of the largest gatherings of industry personnel in the world this year. The four-day conference program encompassed more than 550 technical presentations and exhibits by more than 530 domestic and international companies.
