CAGI to Chair Opening Conference Session at Best Practices 2025 EXPO & Conference

09/02/2025

The Compressed Air & Gas Institute (CAGI) will produce the opening Conference Session 1 at the Best Practices 2025 EXPO & Conference taking place Oct. 21-23 at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, MO. The Conference is devoted to sustainable, safe and reliable on-site utilities powering automation including compressed air, vacuum, chilled water and more.

CAGI Session speaker lineup

The two-hour session, titled CAGI Education Seminar – Case Studies In Maximizing Compressed Air Efficiency, will kick off the multi-day Conference Track 1: Energy & Cooling Water Conservation on Oct. 21 from 8 to 10 a.m.

The seminar will be chaired by Steve Briscoe, Senior Director, North America, Hitachi Air Centers – North America. The speakers and curriculum for Session 1 include:

  • Solving Leaks and Moisture Issues in Industrial Plant Compressed Air SystemsNeil Mehltretter, Technical Director, Kaeser Compressors
Learn about two compressed air system assessments identifying leak and moisture problems. In both case studies we’ll look at data from the existing system, the unique solutions discussed to solve each problem, as well as the overall factors that go into station design.

  • Compressed Air System Optimization: Data-Driven Redesign for Reliability & Efficiency – Tony Taylor, Assessment Training & Process Manager, Ingersoll Rand
This presenter will review the analysis and corrective actions implemented for two industrial compressed air systems utilizing centrifugal and rotary screw compressors. The case studies explore failure points, inefficiencies and moisture issues in legacy systems. Each study details the original conditions, measurement methodology and post-analysis recommendations including compressor upgrades, cleanup equipment and energy-saving strategies.

  • Improving Resilience & Efficiency with Environmental Controls & Breakdown PreventionDouglas Thieme, Western Regional Sustainability Consultant, Atlas Copco Compressors
The first case study examines a critical failure in a large, compressed air system at a manufacturing facility that was using four 1,000 hp centrifugal compressors for their low-pressure system, which supplied control air and baghouse systems. The next case study highlights operational challenges faced by a manufacturing facility running four double-acting reciprocating compressors totaling 2,000 hp.

  • Strategic Compressed Air System Capacity Enhancement & ExpansionDavid Sleeman, Director of Aftermarket Sales, FS-Elliott
A leading car manufacturer needed to boost compressed air capacity without costly new equipment or downtime. By re-rating existing compressors with aerodynamic upgrades, they met growing production demands, saved energy, and avoided major capital expenses – proving that smart innovation can unlock powerful results from legacy systems. Next, we will examine how a molded plastics plant improved air system reliability and lifecycle costs after transitioning from positive displacement air compressors to oil-free centrifugal technology.

“It’s an honor to again have CAGI kick off the Best Practices 2025 EXPO & Conference with an education seminar featuring a variety of case studies. This organization serves as the united voice of the compressed air industry and is made up of the leading global manufacturers of air compressors,” said Roderick M. Smith, Publisher, Best Practices Magazines & EXPO. “We greatly appreciate its continued support of this event. The brand agnostic, expert presentations it’s bringing to the Conference will provide a wealth of learning opportunities and best practices to our guests.”

In addition to learning from CAGI’s education seminar, the organization will offer the Certified Compressed Air System Specialist Exam during the event at a reduced price of $275.

Attendees can choose between several ticket options for the Conference and EXPO – the Full Conference Pass, a Single Day Conference Pass or the EXPO Hall Pass. Click here to register now and secure early bird rates.

The Best Practices 2025 EXPO & Conference is co-sponsored by the Compressed Air & Gas Institute and the Cooling Technology Institute.
