DEKKER Vacuum Technologies is helping DuPont Titanium Technologies, the world’s largest manufacturer of titanium dioxide, meet the world’s needs for this essential chemical. DEKKER has custom designed and manufactured two vacuum pump systems that will be incorporated into DuPont Titanium's $500-million titanium dioxide capacity expansion project at its plant in Altamira, Mexico.

The titanium dioxide industry is a “bellwether business” (a business that indicates trends) because it is closely tied to the construction and automotive industries, and a range of large consumer goods such as appliances. According to a report by Transparency Market Research titled "Titanium Dioxide Market for Paints & Coatings, Plastic, Paper and Other Applications - Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends and Forecast, 2014 – 2020," the global titanium dioxide market was valued at $13.14 billion in 2013 and is anticipated to reach $17.12 billion by 2020.

The liquid-ring pumps provide vacuum filtration at 3,950 CFM (cubic feet per minute). Vacuum filtration is an essential component of the TiO2 chloride manufacturing process. Filtration applications are used extensively throughout the process industries for liquid-solids separation operations involving chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages.
DEKKER is a manufacturer of liquid ring vacuum pumps and compressors, is ISO9001 certified and is recognized throughout the industry for providing innovative and precision engineered vacuum technology solutions. DEKKER has particular expertise in oil-sealed liquid-ring vacuum pump systems and can build to API 681 for liquid ring vacuum pumps and compressors.
Desiderio added, “DEKKER has frequently worked with chemical companies, such as PPG, Nalco and Gulf Bayport Chemical, but the vacuum systems for DuPont Titanium were significantly larger and more sophisticated.”
The design and manufacture process required about one year of work by the DEKKER engineering team. DEKKER was contracted by Jacobs Engineering Group, which provided full engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services on the expansion project.
